The $113,000 grant was awarded as part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010, which was passed by Congress to provide an immediate $1 billion boost to U.S. biomedical research and the small businesses conducting the research. Only companies with less than 250 employees were eligible for the tax credits or grants.
